On The Road Scavenger Hunt

The boys and I spend a lot of time travelling on buses as I really don’t like driving and we have got very good at playing random games to pass the time. One of the current favourites is seeing who can be the first one to spot a yellow car. Whilst sitting with Rory and Rowan playing this game, I realised that it would be really fun to expand the Yellow Car Game and to write a Scavenger Hunt.

On long car journeys, our go-to way to keep the boys entertained is to let them either watch cartoons on their tablets or to play computer games. Rory will often have magazines, books and his Kindle with him too. I thought that the On The Road Scavenger Hunt might also help to give them a little break from the screens, or at least we can but hope!

If you’re driving, it’s not necessarily possible to help a child with reading and so I have designed two Scavenger Hunts. One has picture clues and so doesn’t need any reading ability. The second hunt is designed for confident readers as the clues are written. The second scavenger hunt is a little more challenging as there are more items to find.

There is a free printable for both Scavenger Hunts below but you could also view the Scavenger Hunt on a phone or tablet if you don’t wish to print it off.

If you have a go at the On The Road Scavenger Hunt, I’d love to see, if it’s safe to do so.

  1. I love this! We always play games in the car, especially on long journeys. My daughter is 14 now so it is usually me and my sister shouting things at her while she eye rolls. Usually spotting Home Bargains lorries lol. I love the idea of creating two styles so younger children cna play without needing someone to read the words to them. Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS
