We’re Going On A Tree Hunt

For the last few years, our family have taken part in the 30 Days Wild Challenge from the Wildlife Trust.   The idea is to try and do some kind of nature based activity each day.  They can be as simple as hugging a tree (that is one of their suggestions, and, I must admit,  we have done it when we have suddenly realised we haven’t done anything on a day!) or staring up at the clouds.  We have also done bigger activities such as making a butterfly feeder, going on a Nature Scavenger Hunt and having a go at tracking.

Growing up, I had parents and grandparents who were all very outdoorsy people.  They could identify trees, flowers, birds etc.  I decided to become a teacher and, other than breaks and PE, that was not a career that involved much outdoor activity.  The 30DaysWild challenge seemed like a good time improve my knowledge of the natural world!

I designed the Tree Hunt activity to help both myself and my boys to recognise a few more trees other than just an oak!  You don’t need anything special just a print out and a pencil.  You could be even kinder to the environment and take a tablet with you to view it!  Simply take a walk somewhere green and see how many different trees you can identify.
