Christmas is a time which is filled with festive music from big band instrumentals to Christmas Number Ones and all that’s in between. Many of these Christmas songs are extremely wordy and although lovely to listen to not very accessible for Toddlers to join in with. However there are loads of great songs which are really toddler friendly. Singing is such a fantastic way to develop language and many Christmas songs for toddlers have counting which is great for number skills too.
Here are a few great Christmas songs that babies and toddlers will love.
Father Christmas (To the tune of Frere Jacques)
Father Christmas, Father Christmas (stroke your chin like its a beard)
He got stuck, he got stuck (put your hands out as if you are stuck)
Coming down the chimney, coming down the chimney (do a little downward wiggle)
What bad luck, what bad luck! (thumbs down)
Christmas Pudding, Christmas Pudding (draw a circle with your hands)
Steaming hot, steaming hot (put your hands out in a warning motion)
Pour on the custard, pour on the custard (make a pouring motion)
Eat the lot, eat the lot (pretend to eat the pudding)
Five Brown Reindeer (To the tune of ten green bottles)
Five brown reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh
Five brown reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh
But if one brown reindeer should catch a cold one day
AAAAAAACHOOOO!
There’d be four brown reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh
Four brown reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh…
Three brown reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh…
Two brown reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh…
One brown reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh…
No brown reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh
No brown reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh
But now they’re feeling better and Santa’s on his way
There are five brown reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh
Five Little Snowmen
This in one of our favourites from Singing Hands Christmas Cracker DVD. If you sign with your little ones then I could recommend their series of DVDs more highly. They are fantastic for learning Makaton.
Five little snowmen standing in a line
One, Two, Three, Four, Five so fine
Melt in the sunshine with a sigh
We’ll see you next year
Bye Bye!
Four little snowmen standing in a line…
Three little snowmen standing in a line…
Two little snowmen standing in a line…
One little snowmen standing in a line…
Jingle Bells
Ok I do know this one falls into the wordy category but this is a great one for getting instruments out with and just having a good shake!
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh,
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
Through the fields we go
Laughing all the way.
Bells on bob-tail ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh,
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
I’d love to know what songs your little ones like singing at Christmas. Do let me know in the comments.
We already sing Jingle Bells but I didn’t know about the rest so thank you for sharing! xx
